Hopeson out to ruffle feathers

4:02pm Thursday 16th February 2012

Croydon Harrier Twinelle Hopeson has set her sights on ruffling her senior rivals’ feathers on a regular basis after an impressive weekend at the Indoor UK Trials and Championships, writes Jamie Holt.

The 20-year-old sprinter is making her first foray into the world of senior athletics but, if she had any nerves about making the step up they did not show in Sheffield, as she clocked 25 seconds in her heat to qualify for the final, where she finished fifth in 24.76.

“It went quite well,” she said.

“It was my first senior competition so I was just happy to have my name on a bib and really happy to get through to the finals.

“I am looking to make my mark and consideration for the Olympics would be amazing but we will just have to see how it goes.”

And Hopeson will be back in Sheffield for the British Universities Colleges Sport Championships at the end of the month.

“I am not sure what events I am going in yet, it is between 60m and 200m,” she added.

“I have been doing 400m runs in training, which hurts but they make 200m seem a lot nicer and I have been working really hard so I am just hoping it pays off.

“But I am not enjoying the 400m that much to switch.”

Thornton Heath triple jumper Julien Allwood opted not to compete at the trials.
